BS 5896: 1980 was amended in August 2007 to include new 1860 grades of strand. Development of the standard had been halted due to work on prEN10138 however lack of progress has necessitated an amendment to BS 5896:

• The addition of 1860 grade 15.2, 12.5 and 9.3mm standard strand.
• The addition of 1860 grade 15.7mm super strand.
