Publication of BS EN 445, 446 and 447: 2007

BS EN 445, 446 and 447: 1997 have been updated and new versions were published in November 2007.

BS EN 445 Grout for prestressing tendons - Test methods: contains enhanced grout test methods such as:

  • The "Inclined tube test" for initial type testing of grout which serves to determine the bleed properties and volume stability of grout at full scale and includes the filtering effect of strands.
  • The "Wick-induced" test which is used for suitability and audit testing to measure both volume change and bleeding. Bleeding is measured as the volume of water remaining on the surface of the grout which has been allowed to stand protected from evaporation. Note this replaces the small scale site tests.

BS EN 446 Grout for prestressing tendons - Grouting procedures: contains enhanced grouting requirements such as:

  • Contract specific suitability testing.
  • Pre-grout checks.
  • Supervision requirements.
  • Post-grout inspection.

BS EN 447 Grout for prestressing tendons - Basic requirements: contains enhanced grouting requirements such as:

  • Updated material requirements.
  • Enhanced grout properties.
  • Redefinition of testing requirements.

The new standards have been adopted by CARES and are likely to be adopted by major specifications.
