REINFORCEMENT FOR IN-SITU CONCRETEE30
GUIDANCE NOTES

SPECIFICATION CLAUSES

    110
At present the only UK third party certification body carrying out product conformity certification to British Standard specifications (including BS 4449, BS 4483 and BS 4466) is the UK Certification Authority for Reinforcing Steels (CARES). Deformed reinforcing products produced by companies under the CARES scheme are marked using a unique code which identifies the producer and the country of origin.

CARES impose a strict regime of product testing and traceability from the casting of hot metal to the fixing of steel reinforcement. Obtaining products from certified suppliers ensures that they have been manufactured under approved production and test conditions and comply with the relevant standards.

REINFORCEMENT

110 QUALITY ASSURANCE: All steel reinforcement specified to comply with BS4449 or BS4483 and cut and bent to BS4466 is to be obtained form firm(s) holding a valid certificate of approval issued under a product certification scheme operated by a third party certification body with appropriate Category 2 accreditation from the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS).
